YANAM




Yanam is situated on the East Coast, in the district of East Godavary, Andhra Pradesh.  It  was occupied by the French in 1723.  It ranks the third in the antiquity of the Five former French settlements i.e. Chandernagar 1673,    2. Pondicherry 1674,  3. Yanam 1723, 4. Mahe 1725 and Karaikal 1739.  Yanam was under the French rule for more .


Yanam has very beautiful views. It is covered with coconut trees. One can enjoy fresh iodinised air since it is located over the banks of the Gauthami Godavari River. Humidity is high in this region. The river Gauthami Godavari is one of the main branches of the river Godavari. It enters the Bay of Bengal after flowing about 12 km through Yanam.

 



Yanam Ferry Road was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Puducherry, Shri R.V.Janaki Raman on 11 January 2000. Now, there is a proposal for making the Ferry Road very beautiful by erecting important personalities statues on the footpath of this road.


 




 

Yanam in Pondicherry Yanam Regions and Yanam attractions- The region is surrounded on the East and South by river Gowthami Godavari which release itself into Bay of Bengal after flowing almost 14 kms. towards south east from Yanam places.

The district lies on the spot where the Coringa River and Godavari River separate. Yanam places is more or less a flat land. The soil is alluvial type appropriate for the cultivation of paddy, tobaccos, chilly, etc.



The crops of this district are coconut, paddy, jowar, ragi, pulses, coriander, fenugreek etc.
Yanam in Pondicherry Yanam Regions and Yanam attractions - The major fishing units are Gulrimpeta, Agraharam, Kothapeta, Mettakur, Kanakalapeta, Kursampeta, Padvarevupeta and Sangadirerupeta. The shoe dhony (canoe) is the commonest fishing crafts here. Padona is another kind of boat in use. The catches consist mainly of mullets, hilsa, prawns, cat fish and lot more.

How to Reach :
By Road: Yanam is connected by road with all the major towns nearby like Kakinada, Rajamundri and Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Chennai is 62 km away and the journey by road takes approximately three and a half hours. Bangalore is 303 km from Yanam.
By Rail: The nearest railway station is at Kakinada, which is only 26 km away, and Kakinada is well connected to cities like Chennai and other important places.
